Land grant of 160 acres from the state of Georgia to Samuel Coats of Burges District, Carroll County for lot 299, 24th District, 3rd section in Cherokee County surveyed May 28, 1832 and granted January 31, 1833. Upper portions of documents appear to be missing. Held together at bottom edges by ribbon and wax seal of the State of Georgia. Signed by Wilson Lumpkin, Governor of Georgia, who later wrote The Removal of the Cherokee Indians from Georgia.

Wilson Lumpkin (1783-1870) was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, on January 14, 1783 to John Lumpkin and Lucy Hopson Lumpkin. While he was still a young child, Lumpkin's family moved to Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Lumpkin married twice, first to Elizabeth Walker, with whom he had six surviving children, and second to Annis Hopkins, with whom he had three children.
